Black Lotus

The Black Lotus is comprised of three balancing forms: an upper level curved block; a rectangular block; and a load bearing concrete wall. This project was something I call a 2 day build, completing the design and building process in only two days. By doing this it pinpoints a particular solution to a simple problem. It also helped me to design quickly around deadlines. Black Lotus was focused on entry sequence, that is designed around a monumental concrete wall facing the entrance, that gives only the curious the benefit of experience. The structure is meant only for those who don’t turn away from the monumental wall, but rather ask why it is involved in a small residential project.

Birds Eye View

As you can see in the drawing to the left the structure creates a private residence experience that gives unobstructed views to the exterior.

“If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don’t bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.”
